I’m a bit competitive and for a long time didn’t realize how it was hindering my growth. I was so focused on people that I thought were ahead or beating me that I didn’t realize we weren’t even running the same race. You see, none of us are.
We all have our own track and our own timing. When I’m looking at someone else, I take my eyes off my own road and start to trip up. Their race isn’t mine and my race isn’t theirs. Their gifts, talents, and contributions are all meant to be different than mine.
We each run our race best when we bring those differences to the table and work together. I’ll actually run my race better when I see how to partner with others in a way where we compliment each other, instead of trying to do everything on my own.
None of our journeys are the same, and when we realize that and focus our attention on running our own race a little better everyday we truly start to win.
